My camp was set up about 50m from the creek crossing. There is a bit of a drain that forms a flattish space to roll out the swag. I had a good fire going fuelled by pieces of solid hardwood I collected on the way in. The wood available down in the bottom of the valleys doesn't burn very well.
The sun had gone and I could see glimpses of the night sky through the rainforest foliage. The bush was a hive of activity. Birds and frogs were all calling and there larger animals moving around on the slope behind me.
Looking down towards the crossing I noticed some fireflies. I thought I should head down and see if I could get some photos of the over the water.
On my way down I noticed a couple of glow worms on the bank on the side of the trail. This was super exciting. I had seen them in caves before and some in hollow trees down at Mt Field in Tasmania, but not up here. As I looked around I began to notice them all around me. I made my way down into the creek. the banks were dotted with them, their lights reflecting off the water at times.
I ended up walking around in the creek without a torch for a good while, enjoying the show that was being put on this evening. A combination of fireflies glow-worms and the campfire provided ample light.
